Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
“80 years have gone by since the largest Nazi concentration and death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated, ending one of the most abhorrent crimes in history: the planned genocide of the Jewish people.
“Tragically, this evil was able to go unchecked for too long. By 1945, two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population had been murdered in the Holocaust. It is thanks to the extraordinary resilience and brave testimonies of survivors that we are able to recall the horrors of the Shoah and vow “Never Again.”
“Today, as the number of survivors dwindles, our duty to this vow becomes all the more sacred. To carry their stories forward. And to stand against antisemitism in all its ugly forms, including Holocaust denial, distortion and inversion.
“On this anniversary, Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives stand with Jewish Canadians to remember the 6 million innocent Jewish lives lost during the Holocaust. And together, in the face of a new wave of antisemitism, we vow to Never Again let it rear its ugly head. And to work to restore a Canada where Jews are able to live fearlessly and unapologetically Jewish lives in the freest country on earth.
“We must never forget.”
